Standard #7 Planning for Instruction

The teacher draws upon knowledge of content
areas, cross-disciplinary skills, learners, the
community, and pedagogy to plan instruction
that supports every student in meeting rigorous
learning goals.

Book Resource Guide

In the book resource guide I found books that I will include in my classroom. Each of the books can act as a window, door, or mirror for students. I think each book has a valuable lesson and can act as a way for students to better understand each other. These books are important as they teach students about peoples unique self, background, and families in a kid friendly way.

Book Resource Guide

Reflection: I choose the book resource guide for this standard because it demonstrates my ability to plan instruction with knowledge drawn from content areas as well as the community. I choose books by drawing on my knowledge of the community to ensure that I had a book for each student to interact with. These books can support students in meeting learning goals, and becoming better community members which is why I selected this artifact to demonstrate standard 7. This shows that I can plan instruction in a way that sets up each student for success, and can create a positive learning community.

Mentor Text Reading Study

In the reading study I found books that can be used in a Second Grade classroom as mentor texts to help support writing lessons. Each of the books showcase a writing skill that students will be working on growing. These are important models as they help demonstrate to students the way writers use different elements to better their writing.

Mentor Text Reading Study

Reflection: This artifact demonstrates my ability to plan instruction with knowledge drawn from content areas. I choose books by drawing on my knowledge of the writing goals in second grade such as the personal narrative writing unit to ensure that I had a book to model different elements to all students. These books can support students in meeting their writing learning goals, and becoming better writers which is why I selected this artifact to demonstrate standard 7. This shows that I can plan instruction in a way that sets up each student for success as it can apply to a whole group setting as well as smaller writing groups. Mentor texts are a great resource to demonstrate overall writing lessons such as what a personal narrative is, and show specific skills that certain groups are working towards such as using more descriptive language. I choose to look at second grade because it is the grade I am currently working with, but I have looked at many resources and know how to compile mentor texts for all the grade ranges. Modeling is an extremely important aspect of students learning and is essential in helping them reach learning goals which is why I believe mentor texts are needed in writing units and demonstrate this standard.
