Learning Outcome 2

Beginning my final draft of my essay I went through my sources and began scanning all my annotations, finding places in the readings that I was able to connect with and places that really stood out to me. I then proceeded to work on compiling quotes that really connect and support my argument. One thing I really tried to focus on during this was making sure that my voice was still the one pushing the argument forward. I made sure to have my quotes and evidence support my argument not create it for me, in order to allow for my voice to be heard and truly develop an argument.

An important part of writing is being able to integrate and use these quotes and sources in ways that support your argument and and example of the completion of these tasks can be seen in my final draft of my significant writing project. The last paragraph on page five of my final draft is a perfect example of a Barclay paragraph, which is a very helpful formula when it comes to using multiple sources in one paragraph to support your claim. I am able to demonstrate the ability of using quotes and paraphrasing of sources in a way that helps expand my argument in this paragraph along with a clear analysis of the two. In my analysis I connected the two sources to each-other and my argument in order to provide sufficient and strong evidence for my reader.

Another helpful tool I used to create strong paragraphs with evidence from my sources was the TRIAC paragraph formula, which is used for integrating evidence from one source into your paragraph. The formula’s provided a great starting point for my paragraphs even though I did not follow each on exactly. The main purpose of the formulas for me was to give myself a starting point to allow all my ideas to be organized and from the formulated paragraphs I was able to create my own way of integrating quotes into my paragraphs that was unique to my voice. An example of this can be found in my final draft, last paragraph on page three onto the beginning of the fourth page. In this paragraph I only use one source to expand my argument and connect it to a lot of my own thoughts and main points. The quote directly connects to my argument and it supports my argument but does not direct it, instead my voice is the one pushing forward and expanding on the argument, using the quote as evidence and using the analysis of the quote to connect back to my thesis.

These examples show my ability of integrating others ideas into my own by using summery, paraphrasing, quotation, analysis, and synthesis in a way that still allows my own voice to be driving the argument forward. I believe that with this I have demonstrated the completion of Learning Outcome 2.
