A Conversation with Geary

In my first conversation with Geary it was hard to keep up with each point and example he gave to the audience. Given time to read over his points I was able to better understand them and connect more to the text. While reading I noticed that Geary set up each main point into steps. It was a little harder to keep up with the steps when watching him speak, however, with time to review each one and go back to others the organization of his thoughts was made clearer. It was also interesting to see the tone visible in the text versus the way Geary spoke and his tone conveyed in his speech. Throughout both he always used humor as a way to capture the audience. When reading the transcript it was easier to make connections to the reading such as recognizing how metaphors appear so often in our day to day life. In my conversation with Geary the part that I connected with most and what stuck out to me was he says “metaphorical thinking strikes the spark that ignites discovery”(Geary). I find this comment to be very true. With some metaphors after you think about them for awhile they make you aware of how you think or feel about a topic or idea. They can truly expand your thinking and create a whole new mindset or outlook on something.
